EDGE is guided by a “Best Practices” model that identifies the habits and skills that lead to success in college and beyond.


Students who enjoy the greatest success in our community employ these daily living practices. These contribute to individual success and the health and sustainability of our community. We use these as a way to monitor and discuss our progress toward our individual and collective pursuit of a wellness lifestyle.

  • Maintain frequent, open and honest communication with other members of the community
  • Actively engage in coursework and other learning every day
  • Set goals and follow through on the commitments that lead to achieving those goals
  • Maintain a consistent sleep schedule, eat healthfully, and exercise regularly
  • Consider the impact of behavior on others in the community
  • Make community events a priority in scheduling
  • Organize personal time, finances, and space in a way that results in feeling poised and prepared for unanticipated challenges and opportunities
  • Follow recovery plan and/or wellness plan by consistently using support network
  • Further develop hobbies and interests, both reliable and new, that serve to energize, ground, or renew
  • Regularly engage in spiritual practice or pursue questions of meaning and purpose
  • Spend time and energy on relationships that make a positive impact on my life
  • Find ways to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of others


EDGE was designed by a leadership team with decades of expertise in individual and family therapy, wilderness work, human development, and team building.  At its core, the program is a coaching model that offers an apprenticeship in living for young adults and includes a number of skills essential for success in college and beyond.
